Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Replica to start out with?

There are a number of good starting options for beginners in airsoft.  Assuming you have your gear, ammo, and batteries all selected, you should plan to spend about $180 - $200 on your first replica.

For those who would like an M4 platform, consider the G&G Combat Machine series, or the latest versoins of Lancer Tactical for those who are more budget restricted.

When it comes to an AK platform, you can't beat the CYMA.  Plain and simple.

For G36, go with the JG.  Other brands are adequate, but contain parts that make it difficult to upgrade or repair later on.

In general some of the best low-end brands to look out for are ICS, CYMA, JG, and G&G.  Between those brands, your should be able to find a replica that matches both your budget and your interests.

What is a MOSFET?

Simply put, a MOSFET is a small chip that allows the power from the Battery to skip the trigger contacts and go straight to the Motor.  This increases performance and efficiency and allows for a variety of upgrades, but more importantly, it completely eliminates the risk of electrical arcing between the trigger contacts, allowing them to last indefinitely.

We will be doing a much more detailed explanation in the final part of our Electronics of Airsoft series.  For more information on this and other topics, visit the Slingin Plastic Blog.

How is my shimming?

If you have to ask that question, your shimming could probably use some improvement.

Shimming is a long process that takes a lot of practice and attention to detail to master.  We will be covering a guide on expert shimming later on, but for now there is a guide by TheAirsoftTech on YouTube.com.

We plan on covering a great variety of topics from all parts of the vast Airsoft world.  Any topic you might be wondering about will more than likely come up at some point during the development of this website.  If you have a specific question about something Airsoft related, feel free to send us an email or contact us using the form on the Home page.  Who knows, you might even prompt the topic of my next post.
